Sergio DeRojas - Certified K9 Nose Work Instructor
After working with the City of Union Police Department for 29 years, Sergio DeRojas retired. Prior to his retirement, Sergio DeRojas opened K9 Behaviors, LLC, a business that trains dogs in scent detection.
Mr. DeRojas started out as a patrolman in 1995, eventually becoming a lieutenant. In 2017, the lieutenant trained at the K9 academy in narcotics scent detection and patrol functions. Later, he supervised the K9 Department. A highlight of his time with the K9 Unit was doing demonstrations for students at local schools and the public.
Since 2021, Mr. DeRojas has been a National Association of Canine Scent Work (NACSW) certified instructor and member who puts canines through extensive training in scent detection, odor obedience, protection, behavior, and agility. He is also a certifying official and judge for the NACSW during competitions. Additionally, he hosts various workshops and seminars throughout the year that focus on nose work and scent detection.
Mr. DeRojas’s training and education include a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Adelphi University. Outside of training canines, his personal interests include martial arts, self-defense, fitness, hiking, and playing basketball.
